Senior Arts and Crafts Artist
Member of the Jiangsu Provincial Ceramic Arts Committee
Born in 1969 in Yixing, the capital of pottery, Gu Xuezhong was immersed in the rich culture of Zisha (purple clay) from a young age. He began his artistic journey in 1985 and later pursued in-depth studies at a Zisha craft factory. He studied under several esteemed masters, including Jiangsu Provincial Arts and Crafts Master Ms. Xia Jiajun and Jiangsu Provincial Ceramic Art Master Mr. Gu Daorong. He was also fortunate to receive repeated guidance from renowned national master Wang Xiansheng, laying a solid foundation in both the techniques and theoretical aspects of Zisha art, especially in the innovation of teapot design.
Specializing in floral vessel making, his designs are inspired by nature and capture its essence with finesse. He is particularly skilled in crafting vessels adorned with motifs such as orchids, lotuses, squirrels, and pinecones—each rendered with elegance, clarity, and lifelike charm. His works demonstrate a mastery of both form and technique, achieving a high level of artistic sophistication. With inventive composition and distinctive craftsmanship, his creations embody precision and soul, earning accolades at both domestic and international exhibitions. Many of his pieces have been collected by major museums.
In 2012, he established the “Gu Xi” studio. That same year, he was also invited to serve as a senior art consultant for the CCTV program “Treasure Appraisal” (“Xun Bao”), working alongside renowned appraiser Cai Guoqiang as a designated artistic advisor for “Gu Xi.”
